Tanya Chaney is a highly-motivated and conscientious mediator and arbitrator with nearly 20 years of experience as a trial attorney and a diverse set of other experiences and skills she uses to assist parties in resolving their disputes.

Before becoming an ADR provider, Tanya was a trial attorney for almost 20 years. She handled a wide variety of civil matters in courts throughout Texas, including breach of contract, tort claims, negligence, insurance, personal injury, construction, energy, and employment disputes. Tanya has first-chair experience in all aspects of litigation, from pre-filing investigation through appeal, giving her a deep understanding of the realities of litigation.

Tanya also maintained a steady docket of intellectual property cases throughout her years of practice, representing clients in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters in federal courts across the nation. These cases involved a wide range of technologies, including software, telecommunications, oilfield tools, hydraulic fracturing technology, video gaming software and hardware, consumer electronics, microelectronics, proprietary chemical formulations, medical devices, GPS technology, smartphone technology, seismic surveying technology, and optical devices. Tanya’s extensive experience litigating intellectual property cases allows her to grasp the procedural and factual nuances of these complex disputes, making her an ideal mediator or arbitrator for these cases.

Prior to attending law school, Tanya spent several years working in the private sector, first as an engineer for American Airlines while earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and then in finance at JPMorgan Chase Bank. Tanya’s well-balanced background provides her with clearer perspective and better insight in serving clients’ needs. It also helps her identify creative solutions in resolving their disputes. Additionally, Tanya has exceptional "people skills." Breaking down communication barriers which prevent real progress in negotiation is her gift.

Tanya now focuses her practice solely on ADR. She currently offers remote mediations via Zoom. Tanya also offers in-person mediations at the Heights Mediation Center, conveniently located just a few miles away from downtown Houston. She is on the panel of court-appointed mediators for many Texas state and federal courts. Tanya also serves as a mediator and arbitrator on the rosters of several state and national entities, including the Texas Department of Insurance and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). She has served as an ADR neutral in hundreds of matters, helping individuals and institutions resolve their disputes.

Tanya is committed to giving back to her community. She regularly serves as a volunteer mediator for the Dispute Resolution Centers of Harris County and Montgomery County. She also serves as the Membership Chair for her neighborhood civic club, the PTO President at her daughter’s school, and numerous roles with her son’s sports teams.
